Phytobia species is added to yet another vice county list
On 27 November 2023, having being made aware of how to find the hidden feeding signs of Phytobia carbonaria (Zetterstedt, 1830), George Tordoff examined a local Hawthorn (Crataegus) in Llandaff North, Glamorganshire VC41 and found the medullary spots of P. carbonaria, which represents the first record of this species in the vice county and just the third Welsh record. Many thanks to George for sending in his record.
Now people are aware of how to find this and P. cerasiferae, the recording scheme is receiving many records of these previously ‘unknown’ species.
