Phytobia species are added to the South Essex Diptera list
Simon Wood has recorded the first known occurrence of Phytobia carbonaria (Zetterstedt, 1848) and Phytobia cerasiferae (Kangas, 1955) in South Essex VC18. Simon visited Hazeleigh Wood on 23 December 2023 and found the tell-tale larval signs in Hawthorn and Blackthorn (and also an early flowering Cherry) respectively.
