Phytobia species found at Heathrow Airport are new to VC
Adam Cheeseman examined a stem of Cherry Plum at Heathrow Airport, Middlesex VC21, on 21 December 2023, and found the ‘pith flecks’ of Phytobia cerasiferae (Kangas, 1955). Adam also recorded Phytobia carbonaria (Zetterstedt, 1848) in the stems of Hawthorn at the same location.
These are the first known records in the vice county for both species. Many thanks to Adam for sending in the records.
