Two Phytobia species are reported as new to West Norfolk
On 22 November 2023, Rob Edmunds submitted records of Phytobia carbonaria (Zetterstedt, 1848) and Phytobia cerasiferae (Kangas, 1955), having found larval feeding signs in Hawthorn and Blackthorn respectively. Both species are new to West Norfolk (VC28). Thanks to Rob for sending in his records.
Now recorders are aware of how to find these hidden Agromyzidae species (see here), plenty of new vice county records are anticipated as Phytobia are amazingly more abundant and widespread than initially thought. Happy hunting!
