Phytobia species are reported as new to Cheshire Diptera list
On 21 December 2023, Andrew Emmerson collected and examined Blackthorn stems at Poynton, Stockport, Cheshire VC58 and found the ‘pith flecks’ and feeding tracks of Phytobia cerasiferae (Kangas, 1955). This is the first known record of the species in the vice county. The following day, Andrew examined Hawthorn stems and found the feeding signs of Phytobia carbonaria (Zetterstedt, 1848), which is also new to the vice county.
Many thanks to Andrew for submitting the records.
